My View On The Article

The multipage article stating Hughie Green hosted Opportunity Knocks for 14 years is dishonest. The programme started out on the BBC Light Programme, where it ran for a year, before moving to Radio Luxembourg for five years. It was then produced for a year by Associated-Rediffusion in 1956, before returning in 1964 on Thames Television. It remained there until its final episode on 20 March 1978, which was not the normal show but was made up of former winners of the show. So, in reality, the 14 years is just the Thames Television production of the show up until series 14, missing the Radio and Associated-Rediffusion productions of the show.

Thames Television was created out of the combination of ABC Television and Associated-Rediffusion, so the dropping of the 1956 series seems odd to me, as it was still hosted by Hughie Green so part of his Television history and the shows Television history as well.

Tributes more a case of self promotion for some and for Thames Television in my personal view.
