Summary Of The Article By John Brunton
Lena Zavaroni has turned eighteen after nine years in showbusiness and says fame has cost her the ordinary parts of growing up, such as living at home, going to discos and having boyfriends. She finds it hard to know who genuinely wants to know her. She now lives in her own London house with her parents and her fifteen‑year‑old sister Carla, a change from earlier years spent with chaperones. She enjoys time alone and going out with a few friends, and says she has no boyfriend at the moment, with marriage and family still a long way off.
Her plans include a new BBC series due in April or May, a short summer season in Hastings and, she hopes, a holiday in Majorca. She would like to write songs, possibly with Carla, and hopes to build her career abroad without moving away permanently. Now that she is eighteen she has access to the money earned since her Opportunity Knocks success, but she says rumours of a £1.5 million trust are wrong. She describes herself as well off but still needing to work.
