Stars step in for Lena (Summary)

Audience members at the Adam Smith Centre on Monday night were stunned to learn that top-of-the-bill star Lena Zavaroni had been forced to cancel her opening show at the last minute.

Lena is suffering from a viral illness. Following medical advice, she made the decision to call off her scheduled week-long run in Kirkcaldy.

Theatre director Chris Potter informed the full house that Lena, who is only 18, was in tears over having to cancel the appearances.

The sudden disruption occurred just 30 minutes before the curtain went up, after the singer collapsed before taking the stage. Theatre director Chris Potter explained to the audience that she had previously been unwell during an engagement in New Brighton, where she was only able to perform half of her show. Because of those warning signs, management had proactively placed singer Peter Morrison on standby, allowing him and comedian Billy Jeffrey to step in immediately.

This collapse follows a similar health crisis two years prior, which resulted in the former television talent show winner spending time in a Glasgow hospital for an unexplained illness. Despite the last-minute change to the program, only four members of the audience requested a refund on their tickets.
