In May of last year, nineteen-year-old singer Lena Zavaroni stopped eating, sparking concerns that she had developed anorexia nervosa. Although a doctor initially pronounced her fit to continue filming her BBC television series, her condition required hospital treatment and prescribed sedatives. Amid public concern, her father, Victor Zavaroni, stated that she had not been forced to do anything she did not want to do, and that nobody can be held responsible for her ending up with the illness. Similarly, her manager, Dorothy Solomon, who has handled her career since she appeared on Opportunity Knocks at age ten, defended her own role by stating she is "no Mrs Hitler," asserting that they have always had a very good relationship and that Lena's health has always come first. Currently, Lena is resting away from visitors under medical advice to find peace and quiet.
